New Prints

Most of the prints I ordered back in the summer have arrived now, so here's the sneak peak I promised you. Pretty, no? Any in particular catch your eye? There are a few more still to arrive, but this gives you a pretty a good idea of what my collection will look like for the next little while. Lots of colour, retro florals and geometric pattern. I can't wait to dig in!

Numbers and Letters

I have good news and bad news. Bad news... I've been number crunching. And no matter what way I work the numbers, I keep coming to the same conclusion — I have to raise my prices. There's no way around it, it just has to be done.

Now, before you turn your back on ol' Edna, to soften the blow I have two special offers for you. First, I'm giving you a one-month grace period before the new prices take effect. On November 1st, I'll list my new prints, products and price points. Second, I've been thinking for awhile now about offering hand embroidery as an add-on feature for all my products. Names, initials, monograms, that sort of thing. To test the waters a bit, I'm going to offer this service FREE for one whole month. Crazy? Maybe. But I'd like to give it a try before the holiday season hits. Please feel free to contact me for more details.

This is a great opportunity to get some of your Christmas shopping done early and add a special personal touch to your gifts. I hope you'll take advantage!

Congratulations Peter and Katie!

Having been a bridesmaid in three weddings and a happy guest at countless others, I consider myself a bit of an expert on the subject. As I discovered this past weekend, however, nothing can possibly prepare you for the moment you watch your little brother slide a ring on his love's finger and say "I do". Whew. It's overwhelming and emotional, to say the least. It was a beautiful day and an amazing party, and such a treat to see so many of our extended family make the trip. Congratulations, again to the happy couple! xo

Poppytalk Handmade: Mixtape

1. Rally Made | 2. Retro Modern Art | 3. Lucy Snowe Photography

The theme of the handmade market this month is Mixtape, which is pretty perfect for this moody, in-between time of year, don't you think? In keeping with the theme, Jan shared a fun music mix of her own which just so happens to hit on some of my favourite tracks of late and also seems to compliment the artists in this month's market perfectly. Have a listen while you peruse the lookbook and let us know if you agree.

Hamilton Happenings: September 2012

I hope you had a relaxing summer because your social calendar is about to fill up. As usual, Hamilton's biggest and best events are all happening in September. From live music to art, food and film, there really seems to be something for everyone. If you don't like one of those things... who are you? Have fun, play safe and say hello if you see me out and about!

Locke Street Festival: Sept. 8 / 10-11 / Besides Supercrawl, this has got to be the most attended festival in the city. 200 vendors, 2 stages, a jumpy castle, and over 15,000 visitors stretch this little street to its limits. I'm not one for crazy crowds, but the yummy treats, solid entertainment and healthy mix of local vendors and artists has me strolling back year after year.

Grimbsy Festival of Art: Sept. 8 / 10-4 / As the new homebase for my parents, I was lured out to this festival last year and I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the artistry I found there. I remember being seriously impressed by glass-blown ornaments, handwoven chairs, feather earrings (which I bought), and cherry pie, to give you an idea of the variety. This marks the festival's 45th year, so you know they must be doing something right.

Supercrawl: Sept. 14-15 / James St. N. / I won't be able to attend Supercrawl this year, but I have no qualms in telling you to go. Go. GO! I had so much fun last year — I was buzzing for days afterwards. I've been plugging my ears and singing any time information was released about what's on tap for this year, but a quick glance at the site proves you're in for an amazing time. Born Ruffians, Owen Pallet, hexagons, graffiti walls, sound cannons? GO!

Sew Hungry Food Truck Rally: Sept. 21 / Ottawa St. / 11-3 / Some of the best food trucks Ontario has to offer are all meeting for lunch on Ottawa St. and you're invited! From poutine to cupcakes, they're guaranteed to have your cravings covered. Let me know if you plan to attend, I may have a fabric shopping list for you. Haha! :)

AGH World Film Festival: Sept. 21-30 / If you've ever been the the Toronto Film Fest, chances are you've woken at the crack of dawn to get tickets, waited in lines for hours, overpaid for a gala or two with absolutely no added value, or all of the above. Give yourself a break and give Hamilton's film fest a shot instead this year.  Take This Waltz, Boy, 2 Days in New York and Norwegian Wood are at the top of our list, which just so happens to make up a 10-ticket pass for two — bring on the popcorn!

Open Streets Hamilton: Sept. 23 / 10-5 / Open Streets is taking it one step further this season by adding a second location in the west end. In addition to James St. North, the entire McMaster campus will be car-free, with an extended “Open Street” along Sterling Street to Dalewood. I think it's a great idea to connect these two parts of our city and I suggest a visit to both, travelling between via the beautiful waterfront trail. What a great way to spend a Sunday.

Dreaming in Colour

I think I've mentioned before that I have a bit of a voyeuristic side when it comes to artists and entrepreneurs. I love to see their workspaces, the tools they use, and the inspiration they surround themselves with. Jennifer Paganelli is one of my favourite fabric designers, so I was delighted to discover this peak into her world. I'm pretty certain textile design is not always as idyllic as Downey leads us to believe in this video, but it certainly is dreamy. And, quite frankly, I could use a little dreamy these days.
